Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has come into existence by an Act of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly and recognized by UGC under section 2(F) and 12 (B). Named after the revered Sufi Saint Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah, whose life exemplified the values of knowledge, compassion, and inter-cultural harmony, the University is situated amidst the scenic Pir Panjal hills in District Rajouri, J&K. Endowed with serene and green campus landscape, BGSBU has evolved into comprehensive University encompassing diverse disciplines under eight schools of studies: Social Sciences, Humanities & Languages, Education, Biosciences & Biotechnology, Mathematical & Computer Sciences, Material Sciences & Nanotechnology, Engineering & Technology, and Nursing & Biomedical Sciences. Research centers focusing on biodiversity studies, regional languages, and technological innovation drives knowledge creation relevant to both global challenges and regional development.
Department of Botany

The Department of Botany, BGSB University was established in the year 2014. The Department is one of the leading departments of the University that has maintained a very high profile in teaching and research in plant sciences in the country from the day of its inception. The Department provides M.Sc. and Ph.D. programme and going to start B.Sc. Botany from this very academic session (2025-2026). In recognition of its outstanding contribution in research, the faculty of the Department has been awarded several R&D projects from DST, DBT, SERB, UGC and J&KST&IC (approx 04 crores). Even the Research Scholars of the Department are being awarded prestigious fellowships including CSIR-JRF, UGC-JRF, CSIR-SRF, WISE-KIRAN and PDF.

G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBP-NIHE)
G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (formerly known as G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development) was established in 1988-89, during the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, as an autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India, which has been identified as a focal agency to advance scientific knowledge, to evolve integrated management strategies, demonstrate their efficacy for conservation of natural resources, and to ensure environmentally sound development in the entire Indian Himalayan Region (IHR).
Department of Wildlife Protection (DWP), Govt. of J&K
The Department of Wildlife Protection, Jammu & Kashmir Government, came into existence in the year 1978 to implement the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1978 providing protection to the wildlife (flora and fauna) and management of Protected Areas in the state. The rare and endangered species found in J&K include Kashmir stag (hangul), Snow Leopard, Markhor, Musk deer, brown bear and Western tragopan etc. The Department is making all possible efforts for conservation and propagation of these species in their habitat.
J&K Science, Technology & Innovation Council (J&KST&IC), Govt. of J&K
J&K Science, Technology & Innovation Council (erstwhile J&K Council for Science & Technology) was established during the year 1989 under Department of Science & Technology J&K government, with the objective of promotion and dissemination of science, technology and innovation in the UT of J&K. Science & Technology innovation council also plays role of a nodal Department for organizing and promoting S&T activities across the length and breadth of J&K.
